Rick Perry rips Trump on immigration

The Republican fight over immigration spurred by Donald Trump is getting increasingly personal, as former Texas Gov. Rick Perry says Trump was dead wrong when he blasted Perry’s work in the Lone Star State to rein in illegal immigration.

“Your remarks might make for good reality TV, but they are way out of touch with reality,” Perry said in a video posted on the internet, as the Texas Republican defended his work as Governor.

“As the Governor for 14 years of the state with the longest border with Mexico, I know that there can be no national security without border security,” Perry said in his video, looking dead into the camera.

This was the tweet that started the Perry-Trump fight:

“Donald, you might want to take a trip down to Texas sometime,” Perry said, as he again denounced Trump’s disparaging words about Mexican immigrants.

“I also know your comments about Mexicans are offensive,” Perry said.

Trump has repeatedly doubled down on his remarks about immigration, which were made when he announced for President on June 16, even as a group of businesses have severed ties with the developer.

“Give me a break!” Trump said in a statement issued Tuesday, as he blasted ESPN and NASCAR for giving up on their deals with Trump.

“All of this because of my strong stance on illegal immigration during my run for President,” Trump added.

Look for Trump to keep speaking out about the issue; his campaign says he will be in Arizona this weekend, “about his stance on illegal immigration and numerous other topics,” his campaign said.
